Hadrian's Boy Scout Eagle Project
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hadrian Huidor and I'm a Boy Scout in Troop 509 in La Canada, California. I attend Blair High School in Pasadena and play on the baseball team. I'm working on earning my Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank in Scouting, by renovating the batting cage for the baseball program.
The Blair program has been struggling for several years due to a lack of funding, and several critical facilities like the batting cage haven’t been maintained. I will be replacing the old, musty, and torn turf used in the batting cage, repaint over graffiti in the area around the cage, and paint the scoring deck behind the baseball field backstop.
To carry out the project, we will need 16 scouts and 4 adults each day for 2 days. We will be pulling volunteers from Troop 509, guys from the Blair baseball team, and a few of my friends in the Boy Scouts.
I will divide the scouts into patrols, assign a leader, and explain their tasks. I’ll work on the project and check in with the patrols to monitor their progress.
The most challenging element of leadership will be my ability to control and cajole the scouts into following directions and working on the project.
The main cost associated with this project primarily reflects the turf and gravel that must be delivered to the high school. After everything has been tallied, the total comes to around $2,700.
This project is very important to me as I have been playing on the Blair baseball team since the ninth grade. I have seen firsthand the lack of funding and maintenance. Over my three years on the team, I have volunteered my time to help repair the backstop and stitch up the decaying netting of the batting cage. Many parts of the practices I have grown to enjoy have just stopped happening; we simply cannot use the cage due to the lack of maintenance. I hope that through your generous donation, I can leave behind an improvement that can help the Blair baseball team for years after I graduate.
Thank you,
Hadrian
