Help Sue!! St. Louis Beauty Supply Looted

Donation protected
On Sunday May 31st, after only having opened up for business for a few weeks after the 2 month Covid-19 shutdown, Hair City was looted and vandalized during the George Floyd protesting in St. Louis City. Looters used excessive force to break into the beauty supply store, damaged property and stole upwards of $500k in products.

Hi all. My name is Andrew Lee. I am creating this gofundme page for my mom, Sue Lee. She is a first generation Korean-American, who immigrated to the United States 36 years ago with my dad to seek better opportunities for our family. Starting from the ground up, my mom has worked tirelessly to create a business that has become a staple in this community, creating friendships with customers and strong relationships with community members. She has been a community entrepreneur for decades and actively contributes to the African, Korean, and American communities. She is one of the hardest working women I know and a huge inspiration to me. At the age of 65, she still works from 9-7 six days a week. After work she spends even more time taking care of her family and she does this with love in heart and without any complaints.

We stand for BlackLivesMatter, but the violence and looting has to stop! I am heart broken, angry, and frustrated. While cleaning our store, my mom being the superwoman that she is, saw right through my mask and said "Andrew, don't be angry. We will rebuild. There's a lot going on in this world, and we have to continue surviving even though there is chaos. Everything will be okay".

Despite what has happened, my mom has had a positive outlook on this whole situation: "Everybody faces some sort of hardship. We as minorities have to work extra hard and be extra strong to survive in this world. Don't let something like this break you. We've dealt with so much oppression being minorities. If I can live, you can live”.

We understand that the world is hurting right now. And we also understand that this is a result of the hurt and the need for change. I also know that my mom is hurting and has a long road ahead in rebuilding her business. Unlike large businesses, the small business insurance will not cover the entire cost of damages and stolen merchandise. We are humbly asking for your support in rebuilding our store. Any donations and/or prayers will be a huge blessing! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please be safe out there!
