Hair Dancer Foot Surgery

UPDATED- GO FUND ME
HAIRDANCER
I'm writing this on behalf of my friend Cyndy. She contracted a disorder called Charco foot, which is an insidious progressive degeneration of a weight baring joint on her left leg. She has been fighting the onset of this disease for the last 3 to 5 years after learning she had diabetes. The doctor has determined that after her ankle reconstruction, she is going to need a metal rod inserted into the medullary canal of the fibula bone. This will allow her to be able to stand and walk again. Without this surgery, the bone in her leg will continue to break down.
For the operation to be successful the ankle will need to be rebuilt and the support rod put into her leg. The surgery must be done very soon, to allow for healing and avoid the possibility of losing her leg.
Cyndy is a hairdresser and got her license in 1970. Her job requires her to stand the majority of the time. She has been a stylist, salon owner/manager and teacher over the last 50+ years. As an active member of her community, she hosted a blood drive through her salon instead of having a Christmas party to help a young mother with a rare blood disorder. She donated her time over annual Labor Day fundraisers cutting hair for Jerry Lewis' Kids for over ten years.
Cyndy was show coordinator for the Sacramento Hairdresser's Guild for two years and raised over $100,000 at Hair Fair for educational events which benefited
the hairdressers in the Sacramento area. In addition, she also donated three years of her time holding various positions on the board of directors for the Sacramento Hairdressers Guild ending as President. She was responsible for informing hairdressers of legislative rulings affecting them.
Knowing the importance of education she also raised funds cutting hair for an academic organization at a local college. In addition to working at the salon, and promoting hairdressers' educational future, she returned to college herself. After 17 years of education, she completed her Master's degree. She continued doing hair in a studio she had in her home.
Finally, Cyndy found a passion in swing dancing and participated in many competitions in New York, Arizona and the California State Championships.
This is an overall view of a meaningful life lived. Unfortunately, Social Security is not going to carry her through her need to have surgery and rehab. Cyndy has given to her community and always worked hard. She is not asking for a free handout, but she does need financial help to cover her monthly bills for approximately six months. If you can help this “hair-dancer” it would be greatly appreciated! She has an opportunity to get back on her feet and bring back the quality of life she deserves. Thank you for your consideration and support.
UPDATE - April, 14th 2023
First of all, I would like to thank all of you who have donated to my fundraising cause that was first published on February 27, 2023. Since then, I’ve been convalescing. It’s been incredible to see the change my leg has gone through in the last six weeks! The Dr. installed a “fixator” which is robot driven. It will ultimately turn the controls on my leg allowing it to restructure my ankle. After 6-7 weeks the Dr. will put a pin in the bone. The end result will allow me to stand and walk on my own. For the last two years, I’ve had a cast or boot on my leg to give me mobility to work and get around . I want to go back to work, I miss my clients and friends . I’m looking at 5-6 weeks to put me at the end of my rehab.
I am going to need more help with caregiving. It’s more expensive than I thought. If there is anyway I can ask for more financial assistance, I’d be so grateful. I’m unable to work right now but I’d love the opportunity to work as soon as I can stand long enough on my own. Thanks to your help, I’m close to reaching my goal! Thank you for your continued help and support. I’ve made it this far and I know I will achieve the ability to walk again(#hairdancer). I just need a little more help to get there.
Thank you and God Bless
Cyndy
