Who: Lindsay and Caylan (Best friends!)
What: Caylan cuts her long hair so Lindsay can have a custom wig made.
When: Hair has already been cut and is waiting for a wig to be made.
Where: Compassionate Creations in Newport Beach will be making the custom wig.
Why: I (Caylan ) have long, thick hair and after it's cut it will grow long again. Lindsay just had her second round of radiation and is starting a year long process of chemotherapy...Her hair all fell out and might not grow back due to the radiation!
Having a custom made wig costs $2000 plus some added expenses for shipping and extra hair if what we have from my hair is not enough.
Summary of Lindsay's journey: After experiencing a grand mal seizure in February 2008, an MRI revealed a large mass on Lindsay’s brain. She underwent her first brain surgery the next day and pathology came back with a diagnosis of Grade 2 (slow growing) brain cancer. Nine months later, the MRI showed further tumor growth and in December 2008, she had her second surgery. Things stayed stable until September 2010 when an MRI showed a new spot that was in an inoperable location. After receiving 26 treatments of radiation, the tumor showed no growth until August 2014. After consulting with two different neuro-oncologists, it was determined that another surgery would be needed to remove as much tumor as possible. Pathology revealed a new diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforme…a very aggressive form of brain cancer. Since it had been four years since the first round of radiation, her neuro-oncologist at Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona recommended re-radiation of the brain in addition to Temodar, an oral chemo. After 13 treatments of radiation, most of her hair has fallen out. She is due to begin a double dose of chemo the week before Christmas. Every 23 days she will do chemo for 5 days of every month for a year.
