Haiti Flash Flood Children's Relief Fund
Donation protected
Hello and thank you visiting this fundraising page. My name is Alexandre Telfort Fils, and I appreciate you in advance for the time you have taken to become aware of children in dire need in Haiti. This is an emergency that I urge you to share worldwide. We need assistance to save a devastated flooded community of more than 50,000 children. I do not know where else to turn for help.
Weeks of torrential rain in Haiti’s Northwest region culminated in severe flooding in the capital city, Port-de-Paix, on the evening of Dec. 22. Despite residents’ pleas for preventative action, the flooding has resulted in significant loss of life and property damage.
After more than six weeks of relentless rain, the city of Port-de-Paix was completely submerged. Landslides triggered by the torrential downpours caused multiple deaths and injuries, as well as widespread damage to homes.
A preliminary report from the North-West Departmental Director of Civil Protection (DDPP-NO), stated the severe weather had resulted in:
- 13 deaths, including three on Rue Trois Grâce, three on Ruelle Moïse and one in Morne Bethel.
- 15 seriously injured.
- 100 houses destroyed.
- 500 houses severely damaged.
- 11,000 houses flooded in the city center and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sections of Port-de-Paix, including homes, schools, warehouses, and government and private offices.
- Approximately 20 vehicles swept away.
A majority of the deaths were caused by the landslides. This is my hometown where I grew up and went to school. I am pleading with you to help in any way that you can. Even if it means just sharing a link to this page. Your donations will contribute to food, water, and clothing for children and families in need.
Many residents in areas affected by landslides remain in their damaged homes, uncertain where to seek shelter. With this kind of devastation, and lack of government assistance, families and children are losing hope. See it for yourself here
Residents in high-risk zones have fled their homes to seek refuge in safer locations, but many have been left behind, struggling to meet their basic needs without government assistance. In several areas, devastating floods have washed away farms, livestock, cars and people’s other vital properties.
The children of Haitian are strong and resilient but many schools, clinics, and food sources have been destroyed. I am asking for any assistance that you can extend to begin a rebuilding effort. We all understand that this will be a continuing effort, and I appreciate you taking the time to even read this and become aware of our struggle. That alone is a sign of hope.
Again, I thank you in advance.
best regards,
