Haiti Service Learning Trip

For those who don't know me, my names Stephen Rinck (the one on the right, sitting down). I'm a junior at North Penn Senior HighSchool. I am on the Mens varsity Lacrosse team and I'm also a member of best buddies and link crew, which are both leadership and mentor programs at our school. I have an older brother who is a freshman in college , a very playful dog and have two hard-working parents that support me through everything I do. Without them, I wouldn't be the man I am today and I owe it to them! Myself and other classmates were nominated by several teachers to go on this trip. We were nominated because of our leadership skills in school and outside of school. Going on this trip isn't just a way to explore the world, it is an opportunity to see first hand challenges that other nations face. I would love to go on this trip because I believe It will make everyone including myself, view the world at a different perspective then the one we have now. I've never been outside the states before, so I only know what goes on in the world through the TV stations and that can be very misleading at times. I want to experience what life is like in poverty stricken towns and really get a sense of what the kids at these towns go through everyday. Helping and providing services for these people will not only give me joy, it will make the kids and families have a sense of hope.
I've helped out with different types of programs like Hand-To-Hand down at Saint Joseph's University and The Variety club and I really enjoy making these kids and families happy. Yes going on this trip would make for a great college resumé, but the most important thing is that we bring notice to these poverty stricken towns and raise awareness to the whole world so that everyone can help.
Visiting Haiti would be a life changing experience that I would love to make. I want to bring awareness to these towns that don't have the life that an average American lives. I want to see the world through different perspectives of these families and help them through the hardships of life. Everyday I live my life knowing that families around the world are struggling, yet I have done nothing to help. This trip would be my first of many ways to contribute and build up these towns!
