Hi Everyone!

UPDATE: we are now incorportaed!!

First, I would like  to express our gratitude for you taking the time to learn more about our foundation!!

Timoun Kontan, or “Happy Kids”, is an organization that was founded in June 2017 with the hope of creating a happy, healthy and successful environment for underprivileged children in Haiti.

The seeds of this organization were planted in March 2017, by a group of Penn State students in Haiti volunteering over spring break. One of the main projects focused on during that time centered around the children’s home, Larousse. The trip ended and it was decided that the focus would remain on the Children’s home and thus began the planning and deliberating on ways to support the children of Haiti.

A few of the Penn State students had the opportunity to travel back to Port-Au-Prince and Larousse this summer and while collaborating with Haitian partners, the opportunity to create an organization was identified.

Currently, the children living in Larousse reside in a cramped dilapidated home. It is too costly to renovate and there are limits on the surrounding land. Additionally there are issues with neglect and child profiteering. In Haiti there are some people who would rather collect money under the guise of running a children’s home/orphanage, when in reality, the children are often underfed and poorly taken care of. We believe this is happening in some capacity at Larousse. Due to the lack of trust we have for the management of Larousse, we knew we would need executive power over how the resources are dispersed. Our team decided to create our own organization with the help of our Haitian partners. Therefore, we’ve made the decision to rent our own home. The home will provide space, land [for farming], and a safe walking distance to school. With our own building, we can ensure that the children are living in a safe and happy environment, so they can get the food and education they deserve. Right now, a group of about 40 children live at Larousse. The majority of these kids are family of the people who run the home, whereas the rest are children are either legitimate orphans or they were given to the home by their families. Our priority is focusing on the orphans and children who were given away. We would like to try to place as many of these children back with their families as we can since it is usually more beneficial for an individual to be with their family if possible. The new home is for the children who don’t have families who are willing or able to care for. Any of these orphaned children are more than welcome to stay permanently in the home we plan to buy. Additionally, another role of the children’s home will be acting as a community center. This way, children who have families can stay for the day to play, learn, and be fed. The goal of this home being that, this home will create a safe space for children to thrive.

We need your help! We have found a home to rent and it will offer the children the opportunity to grow. However, the yearly rent is $3,000 or it can be purchased for $65,000. We cannot do this alone, therefore, we are seeking individuals (or corporations), who are willing to donate and help us create a healthy living environment for the Haitian children. Our current goal is $15,000, which would cover the cost of the rent, food and education for the next two years. During those initial two years we plan to become a full fledged non profit by continuing to fundraise in our respective communities. Our first major goal is to purchase the home in order to alleviate the need to pay rent.

Every cent and share counts. Thank you!!
