Haiti Street Dog Project
Donation protected
There are hundreds of thousands of stray dogs in the streets of Haiti. Most of these dogs are without anyone to care for them, no food, no water, no shelter, no love. They live in the streets among the people sifting through piles & piles of garbage to fend for themselves. It's believed that 95% of these dogs in Haiti have NEVER eaten real dog food-only garbage they find on the streets. Some dogs may have unofficial owners who feed them scraps: however, the dogs are still without vaccines, and are still intact to continue to breed & breed.
During the day, these dogs struggle with the heat and seek water to keep cool. Fresh water is very scarce for them so they are thirsty & dehydrated; the water that they are able to find is almost all contaminated!
Objective: To create a safe environment to provide shelter, food, water, medical care including vaccinations, spay/neuter, training, love and eventually adoption services.
How: We are seeking funding to rent, lease, or purchase property that has the means to hold a large number of stray dogs. The property will consist of, but not limited to, a divided yard, an indoor kennel area for various needs. For example: a bathing area, an exam room, supply room, and an office space for the volunteers.
What is needed: In addition to the funds, we are seeking resources such has donated kennels, volunteer veterinary & veterinary technicians, dog rescuers and groomers to train local staff on how to do basic care for the dogs.
When: The need is immediate and we are hoping to launch by or before Fall 2016 to help get the dogs out of the streets with the upcoming heat.
Why: We are passionate lovers of dogs and they’re in desperate need of our help.
