Haleiwa Flood Relief
Donation protected
www.HaleiwaFloodRelief.com Haleiwa/Waialua rivers ran over filling homes with water and mud. From the first morning after the flooding started, Haleiwa Flood Relief has been a grass roots community effort to get supplies, volunteers, and help to the the families as quickly as possible.
Donations received thus (previously through PayPal and cash donations) far have been used to purchase relief needed items such as flat shovels, iron rakes, floor squeegees, bleach, laundry detergent, scrubbers, box fans, mosquito coils, and other supplies that don't typically come through item donations. We're at the end of those donations, so we're now using gofundme.com to receive donations from those that are wanting to help.
All donations have been going directly to helping households that have needs. So far, we have assisted 60+ homes with supply deliveries, and many others with volunteer labor.
We are now finding that flood insurance for many households does not cover natural flooding (only flooding from leaking pipes, etc.), or only covers structural damage (not personal items, furniture, appliances, etc.), or renting households didn't have any renters insurance that covers such disasters.
My wife Heidi and I have been coordinating the effort. If you're inclined to donate, all I can say is that you'll have to trust that we're using all the funds to help people affected with what the need now.
If you'd like to talk with us, we're easy to find. Our contact info is on the relief website www.HaleiwaFloodRelief.com We live in Waialua and are small business owners here in Haleiwa, we surf at Haleiwa, and are involved with lots of community efforts.
We aren't a non-profit so you probably can't write off your donations or anything. We're just neighbors organizing neighbors to helping neighbors. Donate if you'd like. It's going to help someone.
Much Aloha,
Nate Burgoyne
