Haley Helps Underserved At Harvard
Dear friends and family,
This summer, I am honored to serve the Harvard Law School’s Health Law and Policy Clinic (HLPC). I am thrilled with this opportunity to serve on the front-lines of several serious health disparity issues, where I will help provide a voice to the many poor and underserved individuals whose chronic illnesses and disabilities are often overlooked and neglected. In this pro-bono position, I will be developing cutting-edge advocacy and policy strategies at the state and national level that aim to increase accessibility and affordability of treatments and services for vulnerable populations. This opportunity will empower me with hands-on experience in pitching policies to officials for the underserved, developing in-depth reports, writing comment letters, and drafting legislation and regulatory guidance.
For those who may not see my nerdy posts of my adventures to the Supreme Court or may not be aware of my strange obsession with Justice Ginsburg (AKA RBG) and Justice O’Connor, it is important to share that I am hugely inspired by such fierce advocates for the public interest and hope to follow in their footsteps.
This opportunity with the Harvard Law School would help me achieve this dream in becoming a more skilled, innovative, and thoughtful leader in the health policy world.
However, I am unable to afford this opportunity without your help. Because I am not enrolled in a law school and will have recently graduated from GW, I do not qualify for any undergraduate or law school scholarships that typically fund students who complete this program at Harvard. Boston is a unique and exciting place to spend my summer, but it’s also really expensive. Although I will be living with roommates in a relatively less expensive neighborhood, I will need to drain much of my savings to afford this opportunity. There are four main expenses I will face from May to August this summer:
1. Housing (approx.) $3,500
2. Food and other living expenses (approx.) $1400
3. Transportation $1000
4. Moving Costs $500
Approx. Minimum Total: $6400
As a hard-working student who has consistently worked two jobs while maintaining above a 3.75 GPA in economics, this opportunity makes all the work worthwhile. Any contribution you can make would be immensely appreciated.
As the only undergraduate selected for this highly-competitive program, I am eager to challenge myself and take full advantage of this unique opportunity, which I believe will help mold me into a stronger advocate for the underserved. Thank you in advance for reading this and considering supporting me!
