Half Marathon for The Matthew Larson Foundation

Hi! My name is Carly Elbaum, and I’m about to graduate from Horace Greeley High School. For the last six weeks of my senior year, we are given the opportunity to find an internship or create an independent project of our interest. I chose to train to run a half marathon with my dad. We have always talked about running one before I graduate, and with graduation looming in just a few weeks, the time is now!

I have been a part of the soccer and lacrosse programs and involved with the CT22 club at my school. This club was founded to honor the memory of Casey Taub, a beloved Horace Greeley student and varsity soccer player who passed away in 2017 from brain cancer. Our mission is to raise awareness about and funds for the Matthew Larson Foundation in the fight against pediatric brain cancer and to support the families impacted by it. As I train for my run, I am raising money for the Matthew Larson Foundation.

In 2007, the Larson family lost their son, Matthew, to brain and spinal cancer. While they were fortunate to be “blessed with an incredible team of doctors, and nurses as well as friends, and family, and a community who were there for them every step of the way,” they realized that many people fighting the same battles may not have the same resources. So, they launched the Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumors. Its primary purpose is to raise awareness and money for cancer research, patient resources, and everything that can help put an end to pediatric cancer.

100% of the money that I hope to raise will go to this foundation and cause. I kindly ask that you join the fight and consider donating to help this amazing cause. Casey’s soccer number was 22. Donations of $22 would be wonderful, but anything you can give would be greatly appreciated. I will be running my half marathon in Connecticut on June 4th. Anything you can donate will be incredibly appreciated and will help motivate me to the finish line!
