Hallaton 45 Sentinels
Donation protected
To mark 100 years since the end of the First World War and remember the 45 young men from Hallaton who gave their lives in the two world wars, we would like to plant 45 specimen oak trees in fields around Hallaton, each bearing a plaque with the name of one of the soldiers, standing like sentinels guarding the village.
Land owners in the immediate surround of the village have enthusiastically and generously endorsed the idea of our planting oak trees in key positions on their land in memory of our Hallaton men who died.
Trees will be sited in fields accessible by public footpath, away from roads wherever possible. Oak trees can live a thousand years and will be both a beautiful addition to the landscape but also a memorial to the sacrifice of each soldier's life.
Much of the land is grazed by cattle necessitating heavy duty metal fence guards to protect the trees. These are expensive but essential. The total cost of trees and guards is expected to be in the region of £6000, however £1000 has already been received from another source.
Please support us in creating this living memorial to the "Hallaton 45".
