Halo Broke Her Hip
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Erin, and I'm fundraising for my cat's emergency veterinary bills.
Today, as for any typical day, my cat went outside to explore the sunbeams from the back staircase and stairwell. I've lived at this address for 1.5 years, and she's remained in the protected (high-walled) back stairwell except for visiting a neighbor's backyard behind ours.
That new neighbor has a dog and there may have been an altercation.
I did not witness any attack, but I found my cat meowing loudly atop the fence dividing my building from the adjacent yard. Halo's nose was red/bloody, a large quantity of saliva dripped from her jaw (looked like dog saliva), and she did not want to walk. When I got her off the fence, and inside, I noticed she couldn't use her hind legs and was dragging them.
This is her X-Ray (the metal wire is from her broken leg in 2007). Notice her hip is NOT SYMMETRICAL!
The vet said this injury is consistent with a car accident or a large animal attack. Halo is 16 years old, and it is valid to say I'm unlikely to pay for surgery. She's spending tonight at the ER, and if she maintains her faculties (pee & poop), they say she can be a mobile and happy cat after two months of rest. However, if she doesn't maintain her faculties and has complications, I may need to put her down :-(
My husband and I can afford to pay her $3-4k of emergency care (the costs are confirmed at over $3k right now), but it is a significant, unplanned expense among other moving and new baby expenses. For anyone who loves Halo and wishes to support her (hopeful) recovery, we welcome any contribution, large or small.
