We Need Your Help! Hamilton Tiny Shelters
Too many of our neighbours in Hamilton are living in crisis without shelter. People who have never experienced homelessness before are sleeping outside in all weather. There are many reasons for this crisis, but with another winter coming, we know Action is Needed Now!
We're building warm, safe, private cabins for those living rough on the streets or in makeshift tent encampments. Our plan is to create a small community with on-site staff, support services and hot meals to help stabilize those experiencing homelessness.
It's a temporary solution so we’re working with local housing providers to connect residents to permanent, supportive housing once it's available.
Join us in building one cabin at a time!
I'm raising money so our first 10 residents can move in by Christmas. Each cabin costs $5,000 and we have other infrastructure overheads that cost thousands of dollars, too, such as:
- Setting up Hydro
- Washrooms & Showers
- A kitchen trailer and
- Hiring staff
We're HATS, Hamilton Alliance for Tiny Shelters; we’re volunteers who came together to find a new way to help the most vulnerable members of our community. We’ve spent months planning, and we’re ready to go!
But we need your help to get the tiny shelters built! Every donation will help make a difference. The Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton is our charitable partner, so you'll get a tax receipt for your gift.
And I'll be posting regular updates on our progress.
Thank you for being part of this program that means so much to me and to those struggling to get through each day on the street; together, we can literally change lives.
