Hamish’s Hit and Run Heartbreak
Some of you may be aware that our beautiful one year old groodle, Hamish, was the victim of a callous hit and run on Dorset Road, Bayswater, last Friday June 7th.
The reason we know that some of you may be aware is because many of you were so beautiful and caring with your messages of sightings and support.
It’s fair to say that we may not have found him in time were it not for those messages.
For those who don’t know, Hamish somehow managed to open and get out of our side gate. We had only had him for two weeks and we know how fretful he can get when he’s on his own.
He roamed around the neighbourhood for a while and somehow managed to find his way to Dorset Road at lunchtime on a Friday. He was struck, and left to hobble away, frightened and hurt with a broken leg.
We looked in all the places he had been spotted for the rest of the day and into the night. We finally found him, at a general location that several of you had seen him, at 6:30am on Saturday, some 18 hours into his ordeal.
Our joy at finding him alive knew no bounds at that moment.
The good news is that we took him immediately to MASH in Ringwood and they looked after him. He has had surgery to fix his broken leg and should make a full recovery.
So, why are we here?
The vet bills have come to around $9,000, and of course, we will pay whatever it takes to get Hamish well. But it is a LOT of money for us right now.
We don’t expect anything from anyone – your support has been enormous, already - but if you CAN spare anything towards the cost, we will be eternally grateful.
Thank you from the bottom of six human hearts, and one canine one.
