Help Mr. Hammer's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
If you know David Hammer words like funny, compassionate, dedicated and motivated may come to mind.

David has dedicated the last 12 years to helping improve and empower the youth he has worked with. Helping countless people through his daily life he has supported and helped people in almost any way he can.

On January 9th 2022 David was shopping at a local store and collapsed slamming his head on freezers and the floor due to a right ischemic stroke. This was a blood clot blocking his brain so it was unable to receive any oxygen. The stroke started with a sensation of feeling "off" and weak and quickly progressed to a lack of motor function. By the time they reached the hospital, he couldn't stand on his own and could barely form words. He was sent to peacehealth medical then rushed to OHSU for an angioplasty to remove the clot and save his life. He was in the ICU at OHSU for over a week before being transferred to the neuro floor for further recovery. After making enough recovery and becoming stable enough to transfer David moved to Legacy Good Samaritan to the RIO program for stroke specific recovery.

David has remained strong and in good spirits through the event and remains motivated to recover and return to life as normally as possible.

David is not expected to return to work for a bit as he needs adequate time to recover his brain and body properly. Since the event many things have added up for the family such as bills, gas to go back and forth to see David and the things to make life more comfortable and easier to adapt to a new way of life.

Anything received will help go towards these things. We greatly appreciate all the support, check ins, prayers and help making David more comfortable through the process of recovery.

David has insurance that covers most of the cost of his hospital stay, but his post-care recovery will be an extensive process that will require outside assistance.
Additionally, David will need the time and space required to focus on his rehab from this traumatic event without the additional stress and burden of their lack of income since he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.

David has always been the kind of guy to give the shirt off his back and stop to help a stranger in need. He shows up in life with extraordinary positivity, heart, dedication, and grit. If anyone can persevere through this surprising twist of a health challenge, it's David. Let's rally the village now and put the parts in place for his optimal healing. Friends, family, and community at large, we ask for your help. Please consider contributing what you can, as every bit truly matters.

Thank you.
