Hammerstein the gremlin cat’s emergency surgery
Donation protected
If you know me from life or the internet, you will probably know all about Hammerstein or Hammy for short, the delightful and naughty orange cat who is me and Yannick’s best pal. He’s a feral rescue who came into our lives 4 and a half years ago from the streets of Verdun. He is without a doubt, a magical cat who is as cute as he is smart, and twice as mischievous.
He’s a very hyper little guy, who runs around so fast and so often, I worry he is disturbing the downstairs neighbours with his trotting. We call him our little horse because he runs so fast. When we noticed he was low on energy and not his zooming, playful, chaotic self Monday night, we brought him to the vet the next morning. After many tests, if was determined he had swallowed a foreign object, causing intestinal blockage. He was dehydrated, had a fever, and was refusing food. The vet put him on fluids to see if he could pass the object, we soon found the item he had ripped several 3-inch ribbons from. We had found what was causing the blockage, and it did not bode well as 6 small ribbons had been chewed off. A lot of bulk for an 11 pound cat.
The next day, an ultrasound confirmed that his guts where still full of ribbons and the only option was emergency surgery. He went under the knife Wednesday evening and they where able to remove the blockage.
So far this ordeal has cost us 7500 for the various tests, medications, and surgery. At the best of times, this would be a financial strain but as we have both just moved across the country, it’s hitting worse than usual on our bank accounts. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
