Help Hampton & Solihull CC & support Marie Curie!

Dear friends, players, members, supporters, and local residents of Hampton & Solihull CC,

We hope that this message finds you and your families safe and well in these difficult times.

We as a committee are writing to you in what would be our 14th year of existence, but obviously despite the glorious April weather we haver enjoyed we obviously we won’t be able to make the most of this unusually excellent cricket weather as we all observe the social distancing needed to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

With the club closed, and recreational cricket suspended by the ECB until further notice, it’s almost impossible to say what form, if any, the 2020 cricket season will take. The 2020 Committee have been working diligently in recent weeks to attempt to manage the club, and particularly our finances, and what has become clear is that the financial impact of the virus could threaten our future as a club.

As many of you will be aware, most of our income as a club is generated during the summer months, through memberships, match fees, hire revenue, bar revenue, and sponsorship. No cricket for the foreseeable future removes a huge proportion of these income streams.

Unfortunately many of our running costs remain in some form. We must continue to prepare and maintain the ground as best possible so it is fit for use when cricket does resume, and we also have significant costs which we are contracted to, or required to meet such as 3rd XI ground hire, ball purchase, league subscriptions, various insurances, utilities costs, and the cost of Marsh Lane.

The Committee remain in discussion with suppliers and partners, and we do have some positive news in that we have managed to agree some reduced costs on several of the above listed items. We are also in the process of applying for an ECB Emergency Loan as well, however other grants and loans we have explored through the ECB and Sport England are unavailable to us due to the various qualifying criteria.

Unfortunately the stark reality of the situation is that even if cricket were to resume later this summer, we are still going to have a significant shortfall in our income for 2020, which places the club at a critical point.

With this in mind, we are asking for your support to help ensure our survival by way of a donation to help support the club.

For many years, the club has supported Marie Curie Cancer Care (located on Marsh Lane), with both donations and use of our facilities for fundraising activities.  We recognise that Covid-19 means that we are unlikely to be able to do so in 2020, and therefore we will pledge 20% of all donations raised to Marie Curie Cancer Care to support the vital work that they do.

Every little helps, so please give generously.

Many thanks,

The Management Committee, Hampton & Solihull CC
