Hand controls and mobility independence
Donation protected
Jason Wendlandt, RN, has spent his life helping others. But on October 3, 2022, a car accident on his way home from work left him paralyzed—and now he needs your help.
Jason, a former paramedic and Emergency Management Director for Dallas County, has cared for patients as a nurse in multiple local hospitals. When his wife was diagnosed with cancer, he became a travel nurse to bring in extra money. He was driving home from an assignment when the accident happened.
The Wendlandt family is seeking donations to help them buy hand controls and a locking mechanism for their adaptive van so Jason can drive himself. They are also hoping to buy an outdoor “track chair” for Jason, so he can spend time in the woods again—something he loved to do before the accident.
“Everything I’ve ever had, I’ve worked for,” says Jason. “I’ve never had to ask for help, and now I need help every day. But the whole experience has given me new admiration for the patients I’ve cared for, and made me grateful for our community.”
