Hand sanitizer and masks during COVID-19

Donation protected
San Francisco is facing an unprecedented public health crisis. COVID-19 has taken a toll on our community, with a disproportionate impact on our most vulnerable, particularly those experiencing homelessness who simply do not have the luxury of social distancing. Additionally, data from the city shows COVID-19 disparities are breaking along racial and socioeconomic lines because of underlying inequalities.

That is why we are distributing hand sanitizer and masks through a lens of the communities most impacted by the virus, specifically unhoused people, jail inmates, public housing residents, essential workers, and more. This public health crisis demands swift and immediate action, which is why we decided to step up and get these supplies to the people who need it most.

Our coalition includes District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston’s office, Democratic Socialists of America San Francisco, the Coalition on Homelessness, and many volunteers. We are partnered with two UC Berkeley scientists, Abrar Abidi and Yvonne Hao, who are producing and donating a steady supply of World Health Organization formula hand sanitizer. We are receiving hundreds of gallons from them each week, bottling and distributing it to homeless service providers, county jails, MUNI operators, encampments, public housing residents, essential businesses, and more.

Currently, San Francisco requires that everyone wear a mask while outside, however, masks are not provided by the city. Many lack the resources to acquire protective supplies or have difficulty obtaining them due to nationwide shortages. In response, we decided to step up and fill the gaps in city response by distributing hand sanitizer and masks. Any donations to this project will be directed at acquiring masks and bottles for sanitizer.

WHERE WILL MY DONATION GO?

Bottles for hand sanitizer
We are collecting donations to help us purchase large amounts of small bottles to fill with hand sanitizer. This has been the biggest barrier to our operation so if you know of any suppliers of 4 oz spray cap or shampoo cap bottles, please let us know.

For every $25 you give, 50 individuals will receive a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Masks
We are working to place large orders of masks to distribute along with hand sanitizer to communities in need

We cannot stress enough how important this is not only for the health of the homeless community but for every single person across San Francisco. Our public health is only as good as the health of our most vulnerable.

*We have partnered with the Bay Area based non-profit Anything is Everything (AIE). www.anythingiseverything.org AIE is turning their efforts to support the Bay Area during the time of Covid-19. We have partnered with AIE due to their trusted and impressive track record in grassroots organizing, specifically in donation drives. AIE will be withdrawing the money raised in this GoFundMe campaign, all of which will be used to grow this project.
