Sanitizer, Masks, and Wipes for the East Bay
Donation protected
As COVID-19 spreads in the East Bay, we are producing and distributing free hand sanitizer to protect the unhoused, frontline medical workers, and the elderly.
Across the country, the Coronavirus pandemic has not been the great equalizer, as many predicted. The unhoused, the incarcerated, and our essential workers are being infected disproportionately. At most homeless shelters and hospitals, social distancing is not possible. This makes hand sanitizer absolutely essential. Public health and our collective safety are only as secure as the health of our most vulnerable populations.
We have partnered with a group of grad students at UC Berkeley who are producing and donating a large and steady supply of World Health Organization formula hand sanitizer. We are bottling and distributing it out to local community support and homeless service providers. This week, we delivered 1000 sanitizer bottles.
Our goal is to put a bottle of sanitizer in the hands of every unhoused person in the East Bay. Additionally, we want to support the over-exposed essential workers keeping us safe and our society running. This would have a significant impact in mitigating the spread of the virus.
We are ramping up our operation and collecting donations to purchase supplies. The faster we can collect funds, the more people we can protect. We are already seeing reports of coronavirus outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness or incarceration in the Bay Area, including, in SF, the nation’s worst known outbreak at a homeless shelter [1] [2]. In this public health crisis, every hour counts.
For every $25 you give, fifty people experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness will receive hand sanitizer. We are working around the clock to fill these orders.

*Excess funds will be donated to local homelessness organizations such as the Berkeley Relief Fund and the Hayward Community Relief Fund.
*The funds will be withdrawn by Joe Chellew, a lead organizer. Joe will use these funds to purchase supplies and reimburse team members who have paid out of pocket to start this project.
