Hand Sanitizer from Shmidt Spirits
The outbreak of COVID-19 has greatly impacted our community, changing daily life in ways no one could have predicted even a month ago. Many items we once took for granted are now scarce—chief among these simple sanitizing solution/hand sanitizer.
Shmidt Spirits, a new distillery which began production of gin and whiskey this past December, is attempting to help to ease this scarcity by producing hand sanitizer at our distillery in Beltsville, MD. While we are currently in the midst of producing sanitizer for sale, we would love to be able to produce a batch that is available to residents of the College Park area regardless of their ability to pay.
The $10,000 we are asking for will cover the production of 2,000 4-ounce spray bottles of hand sanitizer, which we are producing in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) guidance. These bottles would be free to any families who need them, the cost of their production having been fully covered by this fundraiser.
The money we are asking for goes toward helping us buy the materials needed to produce the sanitizer, the packaging, and to cover our overhead in production, not to mention helping to seed production of future batches.
While we would love to be able to simply produce and distribute a quantity of sanitizer gratis using our own resources, we simply have not been in business long enough to support such an endeavor. It is our hope that the community can come together to help support our effort, and to make sure that those among us in need can receive this essential supply in helping to flatten the curve and stop the spread of COVID-19.
We greatly appreciate any amount you can give. Each denomination of $5 helps us to produce a single 4-ounce bottle, so if you were to donate $20 that is one bottle "for you" and three bottles for families in need.
Any amount we raise over out initial ask will go toward more bottles to be distributed for free to the community.
Thank you all in advance, and help Shmidt Spirits do its part to keep our community safe in this trying time.
