Handicap Accessible Van for Heather
Donation protected
Heather Wall, our daughter has a highly aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She needs a Handicap-Accessible-Van for transportation. We are asking for your help to raise funds to purchase a good used, serviceable handicap ready, vehicle for her.
Heather has been stricken with Multiple Sclerosis for over 20 years. She has slowly progressed from using a cane, to a walker, to a wheelchair, and finally where she must be lifted from her bed to a special power chair.
Both her legs are now paralyzed and her right arm practically useless.
During last fall her condition made it necessary to move her closer to our home in Fergus Falls.
Unfortunately, the availability of proper transportation, even for medical appointments or family visits, or even some level of shopping is practically non existent or only available during extremely short intervals. Heather is not able to be set in a normal car seat or van seating. She must be transported in her special chair.
For visiting family during Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, crucial to her mental wellbeing, transport costs are $250 per trip and only available during extremely short intervals, if there is anything available.
After Jan. 1, 2024 even these few options are no longer available as that company is closing business, and there are no other options in a 200-mile radius of where she lives.
It is important for Heather, though confined to her special chair, to stay connected to her family and the outside world. She needs to attend her daughter’s school events, go out to eat or shopping with family, or perhaps even go to the church of her choice on Sunday.
She is only 49 and it has been a real challenge to lose her ability to stay connected with her family and the world that we all take for granted.
When I asked Heather what she wanted included on the GoFundMe page, here is what she wrote:
"Heather works very hard for everything, to the extent she is tired most of the time. She is very insistent on her independence and without the use of a van, she cannot see her family or friends, or even get out to do the things she would love to see or do, like see her parents or her only daughter."
We can’t afford such a special van, so we are asking for your help to purchase a good used handicap accessible van for Heather so that we can take her to family gatherings, her daughter’s school events, and keep her as active and involved with life as possible. Such a used handicap-accessible van runs between $7,000 to $12,000, and would greatly improve the quality of Heather’s life.
Thank you in advance for your kindness in supporting our Go Fund Me effort to get a handicap accessible van for Heather. Please remember to share this with others who could help.
Thank You so much.
