Handicapped Van for Jerry Cardwell
We are raising funds for a handicapped transport van for my grandson, Jerry Cardwell, who lives in Orlando. Physicians have encouraged the family to get some TBI (traumatic brain injury) rehabilitation for him. Currently, Jerry is bedfast; the hopes are to take him to a local TBI center, which would allow him to receive rehab therapies and possibly the opportunity to be more mobile. Jerry's Mom, Tami, does not have a vehicle that is handicapped equipped to take him to the center and cannot afford one. Thus, we are hoping to raise enough funds to purchase a used handicapped transport van. Jerry's trust fund (which was set up from monies he received due to the injuries) will pay to have a lift installed in a van--they just need the van.
Jerry's Story -- In December 2008, Jerry and his girlfriend were bicycling on a road, and he became a victim of a hit-and-run driver. Since this time, Jerry has been bedfast. He has progressively been able to communicate with eye blinks and facial expressions--he is very much aware of his surroundings. The TBI rehab would allow him to gain more stimulation which could possibly result in Jerry gaining a little more mobility.
I want to thank my friends for taking the time to read my grandson's story--Marie Guill
