Hang Gliding Club at VT
The Hang Gliding Club at Virginia Tech has blown up in the past 2 years and to keep our pilot population alive, we are buying training gliders! The Foundation for Free Flight has conditionally agreed to grant our club up to $6550 toward the 2 gliders, if we can raise $1000 to match! That is where we need your help; from club fundraisers, member donations, and donations from individuals supporting our cause, we have already raised a large portion of our goal. Please donate cash or equipment to help grow our flying community!
Some Background on our club:
Starting out as 2 pilot members in 2016, we have now grown to 9 pilot members and 2 USHPA instructors! We have already fundraised and purchased a mountain glider for qualified pilots to fly in the mountains an hour from campus, but our dreams lie in the training hills. Every year we have between 10 and 15 members interested in learning to fly. Usually we are only able to organize groups of 3 or 4 to make training hill trips to a hang gliding school. With 2 training gliders (WW Alphas), our pilot members will have easy access to fly gliders for both currency and training. We will also be able to do volunteer introductory lessons for new members. This, we hope, spikes enough interest for members to earn their ratings from schools or qualified instructors, knowing that we have a local training hill 15 minutes from campus and gliders for members to practice flying together!
If you have questions, or are able to donate other equipment such as harnesses, helmets, or used gliders, contact Hunter Hollingshead ([email redacted], [phone redacted]) or Emily Webb ([email redacted]). Thank you for your support!
