Help Hannah Get To the NYT Summer Program in NYC
Donation protected
Every year thousands of hopeful students apply to attend a once-in-a-lifetime summer experience with the New York Times. It is an education summit that is two weeks long within the city and exposes students to life in new york, classes taught by Pulitzer-winning journalists and authors, and unique day trips to industry-leading offices and headquarters.
My daughter Hannah is incredibly gifted with her creative writing and decided on her own to take the chance and apply. Out of the thousands vying for only a few spots, Hannah's application was accepted based on her academics and a sample piece of writing.
I will be transparent, the tuition amount came in and it is staggering. Around 8 thousand dollars once converted into Canadian dollars.
This is not an amount we could ever hope to pay for her to attend but we also don't want Hannah to miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience due to funds, so this is our attempt to rally our community to see if we can support the best and brightest from Fredericton NB Canada and help them better themselves.
The first amount of tuition is due on April 4th 2023 which is 1500 USD and then the remaining balance is due by May 1st.
We recognize that we may not be able to raise the amount by the deadlines and if this is what happens we will direct the funds into her college program.
If you would rather etransfer me directly to save the gofundme fee please email me to arrange the etransfer.
This is a dream come true for Hannah and she wrote a letter to explain her thoughts and feelings on it :
Since I was little, I’ve always loved writing. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been scribbling things down whenever I get the chance.
"A couple months ago, my friend presented me with the crazy idea of applying for the New York Times Summer Academy. After a lot of convincing on her part, I applied. Thinking there was no shot I would get in, I tried to forget about it. Then, the email came in, and I had been accepted.
The idea that the New York Times wants me to attend a creative writing program still feels insane. Now, the only roadblock is coming up with enough money to be able to go.
Because I’m an international student, the cost is exponentially higher than that of a residential student. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I would be crushed to have to forfeit my spot because of the cost. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this could help so much. Thank you!"
Thank you! If you don't have any money to give please share this link with your network.
