Hannah during her cancer journey

Hi! My name is Hannah Rainey, I’m 21, and roughly six months ago I went into the ER in excruciating, debilitating pain. I was in pain, incredibly nauseous, had high fevers, and could barely keep anything down. This was the fourth time in eight months I’d been in the ER, but this time it was decided I needed a CT. My doctor that night found a mass coming out of my appendix, what was originally deemed as maybe a colon or colorectal cancer was found with pathology to be Stage III appendeceal adenocarcinoma with lymph node involvement. After my initial surgery to have my appendix and the mass removed, I underwent five rounds of chemo. Chemo that was long and hard and had me back in the ER, that also didn’t work. My cancer had spread to my ovaries and had grown another tumor where my appendix should’ve been in just six short months. We began to be referred to different specialists, traveling to St. louis frequently, and now to New York, to see the experts and get their opinion.
We’re ultimately looking at a big surgery, roughly fifteen hours, to remove all the disease, including my ovaries, the mass, and part of my small intestine and colon, but this will hopefully send me into remission! This will further prevent Josh and I from working and being able to do much of anything for about two months. This will be a long and difficult recovery but we’re remaining hopeful that my team can get all the disease out. Thank you for your love and support along the way!
