"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of one of our extended family members. Keith Hurlbut, a member of the military, found out that his twelve year old daughter, Hannah Grace, was in critical condition on 8 April, 2020, while he was deployed overseas. The original symptoms that Hannah endured were stomach related in nature, which quickly resulted in her breathing stopping within hours. It took the paramedics thirty minutes to get her heart beating again, and she was evacuated from her home via life flight to a local hospital. The doctors determined that she had undiagnosed juvenile diabetes with no prior noticeable symptoms before this occurrence. The brain damage sustained was extreme and within days Hannah passed away. Due to COVID-19 there were limited flights and restricted travel; Keith was unable to say goodbye to his daughter in person. Keith had to make some challenging and heart wrenching decisions miles away from his family, which was emotionally challenging. His wife and three other children are in the grieving process, but they know that Hannah's story can help save other children's lives. Despite this tragedy, the Hurlbut's have vowed to support Hannah's legacy by starting a non-profit that promotes public awareness for juvenile diabetes. No parent or sibling should have to suffer the loss of a child, sister, or friend. We are raising money to keep Hannah's spirit alive and to help the Hurlbut's realize their dream for Hannah now that she is gone. If you find it in your heart to donate to Hannah's project then no amount is too small. We appreciate your support of our patriot family."
