On Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, Hannah woke up without the use of the lower half of her body. Hannah was taken to Scotland County Hospital ER, the ER doctor ruled it a neurological problem and as a family, we chose for Hannah to go to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. While in STL Hannah had multiple tests and procedures performed in an attempt to diagnose what was going on with her. She had countless MRIs and spinal taps, doctors, and nurses in and out of her room. Hannah also received 8 sessions of plasmapheresis. Hannah did not let any of this get her down, she continued to work hard with therapy and the rest of her medical team. While in the hospital she had so many friends and family come to visit her, send her gifts, and just calling her to talk. Hannah received a diagnosis of Idiopathic Acute Transverse Myelitis.
On Thursday, March 5th, 2020, Hannah got to come home! This was such an emotional day for her and the family, as she was coming home in a wheelchair (what a major life change and adjustment). Hannah continued with physical and occupational therapy at Scotland County Hospital.
June 2021 Hannah went to Rusk Rehab to do more extensive therapy in an attempt to possibly get her walking again.
Hannah has since developed scoliosis, which is causing her a significant amount of back pain. Hannah is set to have surgery on her back on June 7th, 2022.
We are setting up this Go Fund Me to help our parents with expenses while Hannah is in the hospital after surgery and for when our parents have to take off work to take care of her once she is home.
