Hannah's Guatemala Internship 2016

Dear Friends and Family,
I am so exited to share that this summer, I will be working and interning in Antigua, Guatemala for two months! Since hearing about this opportunity with Hope of Life International, my freshman year of college, I have been looking forward to being a part of such an amazing experience. After MUCH prayer, thinking and overthinking (like I so often do) I have come to two conclusions. First, my love for God -- the distance that I will go for him -- is not meant to be rationalized. One cannot rationalize love. It causes us to do things without thinking…and overthinking. It compels us to be “out of our minds” and to reach beyond comfort or convenience. Love cannot be constrained or stifled. One of my favorite movies is Interstellar, so just humor me a bit while I quote it:

“Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can’t yet understand it.”

This brings me to my second conclusion: When concerning God’s will, it is not always a matter of “this here is the right choice and that there is the wrong choice.” Now, don’t misunderstand me there are very obvious right and wrongs, but what I mean to say is that when God gives us two good things to choose from – two wide open doors, if you will -- God simply desires us to walk through one and give Him glory in the process. Too much valuable time is spent looking at both options and trying to picture a future behind one door vs. the other. Being able to give God glory in ALL things: this is the beauty of the freedom we are given in Christ.

So friends, with all that said, I’m overjoyed to use my freedom in Christ to step through this door with proud, irrational, confidence in the love I have for Him and in His love for me. I am aware that this is not your typical support letter, but I wanted to give you a look into the heart of the person you would be supporting. Now, about the trip itself: I plan to spend two months in Guatemala next summer, ministering with the Liberty University Spanish Institute, through Hope of Life International. (https://www.hopeoflifeintl.org) During the first month I will be taking Spanish courses while also developing fluency by working in ministries such as a medical clinic, an orphanage, a home for the elderly and a Christian school.

The second month will feature an internship in which I will live in a home where the family only speaks Spanish while also working at a job where I must use my Spanish constantly.  In this setting, I will aim to share Christ personally, one-on-one to the individuals with whom I come in contact.

Thus, the next few weeks will hold much physical and spiritual preparation. Fortunately, I have been given amazing people like you to help in this preparation! Whether, through prayer or finances or any other means, your support is so appreciated. I began fund raising with the financial goal of $6,000 and over the last few months God has worked in amazing ways through some awesome people! I now am only $3,000 away from my goal! While the number is still big, I am at peace, because I serve a God who I cannot wrap my mind around. I believe, wholeheartedly, that since God has opened such a door, there are amazing lessons to be learned in the time that he has me walking through it. Please pray with me that God will keep me sensitive to his touch while, molding my heart and mind in accordance to what He has already prepared for me. Thank you so very much for your prayers and support.

 Sincerely,

Hannah Honeycutt
