Hannah's Pacific Crest Trail Hike

Hi, I'm Hannah (on trail, people call me Spring). I enjoy going for long walks in the woods with my rubber duck and deciding whether my cheese is too sweaty to eat after it has sat in my pack for multiple days. I am a junior in college and taking a gap semester to hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). The PCT covers 2,650 miles from the California/Mexico border through Oregon, and Washington to the Canadian border.

Some examples of gear I will be buying in preparation for my trip: tent ($600), sleeping quilt ($300), rainjacket ($180), hiking boots ($180), stove ($144), headlamp ($37), water bladder ($23), waterproof journal ($11).

Items I will need along the trail: hiking boots (likely two pairs along the way), new sleeping pad when mine inevitably pops, food resupply weekly, hostel/hotel stays, laundry.

Why the PCT? After hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2021, I absolutely fell in love with long-distance backpacking and can't wait to explore another long trail. Although I was initially attracted to thru-hiking for the challenge and adventure, the freedom and simplicity of focusing on my basic needs allows me to continue my journey of self-discovery and personal growth. The solitude of trail life and chance to connect with nature gives me space to deepen my understanding of myself, my values, and ultimately my sense of purpose.
