Hans' Journey Home for Final Goodbye

Hello, my name is Astrid Restrepo. On June 5, around 4:30 pm on Moran Beach with Harbor Patrol, Santa Cruz, CA, I lost my husband, the father of my daughter, and my other half.
Hans was enjoying the day around the beach, spending time with locals, and resting before work the next day. **Hans decided to jump into the ocean from the top of the cliff next to the beach as locals loved to do. This jump would cost him his life when the high current levels in the ocean kept him from emerging safely. Now, he is not able to return home to us.
Hans was an incredible father, husband, and friend. I will never forget our time together. But now I have to overcome this loss, bring him back home (Atlanta, GA) from California, and give him a proper burial with all the people he loved.
Hans’s foreman has asked if I would create an account so his friends and coworkers could donate in honor of his life. I am so appreciate and in awe of the support and kind actions of everyone since the accident. Our family is so grateful for all of you.

**UPDATE: recent investigation from the Santa Cruz sheriff’s department show that Hans didn’t jump off the cliff; he was swimming when the strong waves took his life.
