We are FEED THE STREETS
We are providing 500 meals a week, as well as providing hygiene products for the unhoused community in Hollywood and Skid Row. We are also purchasing nonperishable items, including; plates, utensils, coolers, trash bags, tables, tarps, cleaning supplies and tents. We buy frozen food to bake/roast. Volunteers across the city donate home-cooked food. However, there is never enough for our population that we feed—therefore—we have to buy trays of food from restaurants. We also provide athletic and creative supplies to at-risk youth in South LA x Watts 8 times a year in quarterly events—including hot meals/catering.
Our Fundraiser
Please join us this holiday season as we provide necessities to low-income families, children, and our unhoused neighbors. Seventy thousand houseless people live in our communities, and everyone deserves a hot meal and warm clothes. We believe that food and clothing is a human right. We know this is a challenging situation. However, a simple act of kindness can go a long way and change somebody’s life. Have you ever been cold or hungry? If so, you can relate to the people we’re providing support to.
We are serving 3-4,000 meals per month and would like to continue increasing this number with more funding. We also purchase an assortment of supplies we hand out at our location on Skid Row and our second location in Hollywood. We provide hygiene, clothing, tarps, tents, ponchos and PPE.
The youth in our marginalized communities will be the next generation of unhoused people if we don’t do everything we can to help out now. To use our resources and give opportunities to at-risk youth—to share our talents and unique skills with kids who want to learn. Gun violence is rising in the city, and most kids we interact with have experienced traumas. Gangs and drug use are a normality in these communities. We bring love, we are safe, and the families know they will be fed and greeted with empathy and compassion when they come to our events.
This year we are hosting events for two holidays, one on Thanksgiving and the other on Christmas. This Christmas, we are partnering with Watts Community Core to give away holiday gifts to 700 families. We will be purchasing and wrapping gifts for at-risk youth in Watts. The gifts will range in items for ages 5-15. We intend to help with meals and host an Arts and Crafts event in February 2023.
Budget breakdown:
20% of the donations we receive will go to our Christmas holiday event for children's gifts and food for their families experiencing food insecurity.
20% will contribute to Watts Community Core Art Event. WCC is a nonprofit organization we regularly partner with to help low-income families in need. We assist in providing children with a space to be creative. These events benefit the community positively and strengthen children's passions and relationships with one another through group activities.
30% of the donations will provide groceries and meals for unhoused/low-income individuals and families. We cook hot meals and put together grocery packages so people can cook at home.
30% will be utilized for our operations. Operation costs include our office rent, utilities, payroll, labor and gas. This portion of the donations is crucial to keep our organization running strong. It allows us to continue helping people in need throughout LA County.
Please join us! We always welcome new volunteers; all donations are highly valued and appreciated.
Thank you so much! Happy Holiday season to you and your family!
