Happy Holidays, Mailman Mike
As a long-time resident of the Broadview/Danforth neighbourhood, it's hard to
imagine a better mail carrier than our neighbourhood Mail Man, Mike.
After speaking to a few locals on Pretoria and Ellerbeck who feel the same way as I do about our favourite mail carrier, we thought it might be nice to make Mike's
holiday season extra special this year, as a way of saying an extra big thank you for his back-breaking work during the pandemic. So, I've organized this fundraiser to present Mike with an envelope of cash or a cheque for the holidays that he can use however
he wishes.
When the covid-19 crisis was ongoing all summer, I constantly saw Mike outside, delivering TONS of packages in the hot sun, literally dripping with sweat. I made a mental note about this incredibly physically difficult work that was happening,
seemingly invisible when we all just opened our front doors and found our
packages waiting. There where days when it was so hot, I couldn't even walk my
dog - but Mike was out there, making sure everybody got whatever they needed
to get through the shut downs.
Mike always goes above and beyond as a mail carrier - for instance, when he knew I was house sitting for a neighbour, he brought my mail to their house instead.
He's always so friendly, warm and kind, even to my dog, who is relentlessly
horrible to him.
I think I speak for all of us when I saw he would be so deeply missed if he ever left our community. I know many people give Mike holiday gifts anyway, but if
you'd like to be part of a community effort to give him an awesome holiday
season, please feel free to donate any amount! We will present Mike with the
card and this page ( so please feel free to write him messages of appreciation)
just before Christmas :)
