On September 22nd, a safe space for Colorado's Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community was broken into and vandalized.

A usual Friday at Happy Living Adult Daycare is typically bustling with Chinese seniors playing mahjong and BINGO, singing karaoke, and doing tai chi exercises with their friends. It's a place for our elderly community members to gather and enjoy aspects of their culture.

That morning, the seniors arrived to find a terrifying scene. The center's windows were shattered, a recently installed fence was ripped from the ground and thrown into the window, and displays and pottery were broken.

While it is unclear if this was an act of Asian hate, the perpetrator also used a street sign to destroy the center's signage which lists the multiple AAPI organizations housed at Happy Living.

There was an estimated $3,000 worth of damages that will not be covered by insurance.

This community center is also home to Asian Avenue Magazine, Colorado Asian Culture and Education Network, and Rocky Mountain Chinese Weekly.

It has been the space where many AAPI folks and organizations in Colorado have gathered since 2016. They have always been the first to support and show love for the AAPI community and now we can do the same for them!

Now is our chance to give back to our senior community and those who serve them by supporting their efforts to rebuild the community center! All funds raised will go towards repairing Happy Living, including the broken fence and window; and putting up a new sign for the building.
