Education is critical for breaking the cycle of poverty and yet over half of the world's schools lack access to sanitation products and facilities for girls. Lack of WASH facilities and sanitary products for girls has serious effects on girls’ academic performance and attendance rates. It also prevents girls from getting an education during their periods. This makes girls miss 5-7 days of school, on average, every month.
Happy Flow is a menstrual health and a well-being project designed to approach girls fully lived experiences. The project provides free sanitary products to 250 girls from ages 13-19 at Yagbum and Damongo Model Girls Junior High School every month, WASH facilities (WASHforGirls) and a girl empowerment program (EDUPOWER) which focuses on four components: violence prevention, education, health, and wealth creation, to increase the overall positive impact on girls’ lives.
The money raised would be used to provide free sanitary kit bags which includes: sanitary pads, panties, soap, bathing sponge, deodorant, and calendars to help them track their periods. The money will also be used to provide bathroom cleaning detergents, tippytaps, dustbins as part of our WASHforGirls program.
