Help save Bobby, my 10-month old Cane Corso

Donation protected
My name is Britta and I am fundraising for my 10 month old cane corso puppy, Bobby. Bobby is my heart dog, the dog I searched for and waited for for years. On 8/19/22, Bobby started to not act like himself. He lost his appetite, was throwing up and had diarrhea. His condition didn’t improve over the weekend and we were able to get him seen by a vet on 8/22/22 after begging any vet in our area to see us. I had a suspicion that he had a bowel obstruction, though I wasn’t sure what he could have eaten and I couldn’t feel any solid objects in his abdomen. X-rays taken on 8/22 showed no blockage, but Bobby did test positive for anaplasmosis and treatment for anaplasmosis began. We took him home after a full day of hospitalization. Things were okay for a few days, but on 8/26/22, things took a turn for the worse. Bobby hadn’t eaten a full meal in days and couldn’t even keep down water anymore. After calling vet after vet after vet, we were finally able to be seen at a clinic an hour away from home. I stopped working and left immediately. X-rays were taken again and this vet determined that there WAS something in his intestine, though it was unsure at the time whether the blockage was caused by a foreign body or if he had a more severe problem - intussusception, which would mean that his intestine twisted back on itself (also causing a blockage). Due to the severity of Bobby’s condition, our vet recommended we take him to a 24/7 clinic for surgery. Due to the vet shortage in our rural area, Bobby and I had to travel three hours from home for emergency surgery. I took nothing with me except my purse and my dog and had no idea when I’d be able to return home. Bobby was in surgery for four hours at the emergency hospital and a knotted piece of cloth (which I did not recognize at all) was determined to be in his intestines. The surgeon was able to push it back up to his stomach and remove it from there. I went to bed with hope; however I got a call at 2:00 a.m. that Bobby had taken another turn for the worse. His condition became very critical and it had been determined that he had fluid in his abdominal cavity and was septic. His second emergency surgery in 8 hours revealed that he had a 1/2 cm perforation in his bowel. A 7 cm section of his intestine had to be removed. It is thought that the cloth was partially stuck in his stomach while his intestine continued to try and move it through, causing the intussusception and intestinal perforation. If this had been caught on Monday, the sepsis may have been avoided, but we were not that fortunate. Because Bobby hadn’t been eating and was very weak, he came out of this second surgery in even more critical condition and was unable to breathe on his own for hours. As of 8:00 on 8/27/22, Bobby is still critical and we have no estimation as to how long he will need to be hospitalized or even whether or not he can recover from this due to the infection, his low protein count, and all the trauma he has been through. Bobby is a fighter and I am keeping my hopes up that he can pull through; however how sick he is has made helping Bobby very expensive. Our vet bills have reached $10,000 so far and that isn’t including any additional hospitalization beyond today. We are expecting this amount to grow by quite a lot. Bobby means the world to me and losing him would honestly break me. He is my heart dog, my everything. He is the perfect example of what a a cane corso should be - the perfect breed ambassador. He is the sweetest boy with a fantastic temperament. Personality for days. He loves kids, has a tremendous amount of patience and is the best buddy to his two dog and three kitty siblings. And he is already my fierce protector. He is everything I dreamed of and more. We have such high hopes for Bobby and dream of making him an AKC champion and grand champion so we can demonstrate how wonderful the cane corso breed is when well bred and properly trained and socialized. But if I can just have Bobby home in any capacity, that will be enough. I do not expect donations from anyone, but would appreciate any help anyone is able to provide more than I could ever say. I have never asked for veterinary help (or any help) before and never planned to, but could never have imagined such high bills would be upon us with such a young, healthy boy. Any and all funds donated will go directly to Bobby’s medical care or to help us pay down the Scratch Pay loans I have taken out so far for Bobby’s care. Thank you for reading our story and for your consideration. Please help me save Bobby.
