Harbor-UCLA Pediatrics Holiday Drive

On behalf of the Harbor-UCLA Pediatrics Department and Advocacy Committee, we want to invite you all to participate in a holiday drive where we will be collecting items and donations for families in need.
This year has been exceptionally hard on our families. We are a safety net hospital that serves low-income families in LA County. Many of the families nominated have experienced loss of family members, job loss, and housing insecurity.
Some examples of the families we will be sponsoring:
- 10-year-old with non-traumatic brain injury whose mother is the sole provider and caretaker for the family. The pandemic has been a difficult time for them as she goes from food bank to food bank to provide for her family.
- 5-year-old and 7-year-old siblings whose parents do not have consistent work. Parents currently work at a flea market, which has not been doing well. Family has concerns about paying bills and they often receive warnings that their electricity could be shut off. Mother was recently hospitalized due to seizures and their family car is now totaled due to an accident.
- 2-year-old, 3-year-old, and 7-year-old siblings with hx of trauma who are now under the custody of their grandmother. Grandmother is not receiving any financial support, so she searches for food drives or looks on marketplace for free items/toys that her grandchildren can play with. Family recently had no wifi, heater, or electricity for a short period of time.
- 7-year-old who is blind and developmentally delayed and his 3-year-old autistic sibling whose family is financially struggling. They have extra expenses due to increased needs by both children and would greatly appreciate any support.
- 11-year-old, ex preemie, with severe anxiety whose father recently passed away this past year. Mother and child have been grieving and experiencing financial difficulties.
We hope to sponsor 7-10 families who we care for in our Pediatric Continuity Clinic. Your generous donations will go towards fulfilling their wish-list.
