Homeless Single Mom Needs Help
Donation protected
My name is Wendy Johnson and this is my cousin Toni Witherspoon and her beautiful daughter Charli. Unfortunately, she has come into hard times about 4 months ago and partly due to the Pandemic they lost their home. I 've started this campaign to help her get back on her feet, covering some past due bills and eventually get their own place again.
COVID19 has affected everyone worldwide in one way or another. Unfortunately some harder than others. Not everyone is in a position to give as some may themselves be in a similar situation. This is only way I can help. Please donate if you can.
TONI'S STORY
Toni and her daughter live in Wilmington, North Carolina. She has no siblings, an only child of her parents. Even before Covid19 hit the USA Toni hasn't had it easy.
She was extremely close with her mom. Her mom became very sick with multiple sclerosis (MS) and eventually had to be in a nursing home. When her mom passed she felt all alone since she is an only child. Her dad lived across the Country in California. The loss of her mom affected her more than she could bear and with no family support she made some decisions at that time she is not proud of. She has worked really hard to get her life back on track. She is a strong person.
By the time she had her daughter she was in a better place than she was after losing her mom. Charli saved her life. Charli is her life.
Toni tells me that she has a job...........but because of Covid19 and having to self isolate she was out of work for 2 months. She had the option to work from home but she was not equipped to. She didn't have internet..........and therefore could not do her job from home. This led to her getting further behind financially so much so she lost her apartment.
Toni attends church and leads a clean life. Toni is a loving mother to her 3 year old daughter and takes very good care of her.
She is doing her best to give her daughter the life she deserves to the best of her ability.
This is what Toni has to say about what they're going through.
The last few months with my child in the streets have been very stressful. My baby is only 3 yrs old and we have been homeless for the last 3 months. I work very hard to provide for her and put a stable roof over our heads. She's smart enough to know that we don't have our own place and she's always asking when are we going home. I don't have an answer for that.
Finding affordable housing is almost next to none where I live and I have been on the section 8/ housing authority waiting list for almost 5 years now. I do periodically call and check to see the status. According to HUD housing rules I would only be eligible for a 1 bedroom and guess what?? I'd jump at the moment to move in it because I'm not prideful! It's a stepping stone. I've been working with different programs to help me and my baby but I haven't been so successful. Through some of these programs, I was successful in finding stable employment and that is a blessing but the housing is most important. When I accomplish my goal I hope to purchase a home so my child never has to deal with what I've dealt with.
What They Need
At least $2,500 CAD is needed to help with paying rent where she is currently while waiting to transition to her own place again. It will help with some bills that she is behind in and ultimately into a home of their own again. She has to be able to keep her car on the road so she will have a way to get to work and Charli to daycare.
What You Can Do
There is no doubt we are all finding things more expensive because of this pandemic and we know it is not easy for anyone. Please don't think that in order to help you have to make a big donation for it to make a difference. No. We all have different circumstances so even if you can help with a modest donation it will be much appreciated and it will make a difference. No donation is too small.
Toni has come so far since her mom has passed let's do what we can to help her and Charli get off of the homeless list. I would like to think that others would do the same if it were me or you in her shoes.
If you're able to help, please help as soon as you can because Toni has been homeless for a few months now and as soon as she can get her own home again it will lessen her stress and answer Charli's question, "When are we going home?"

Anything is a help and much appreciated.
