Harley C. Gilmore Surveying Scholarship

During his 66 year career in Florida Land Surveying, Harley C. Gilmore, was dedicated to teaching and educating land surveyors and he had a passion for people. For that commitment to the profession, his company PDHPro.com has established the Harley C. Gilmore Memorial Scholarship and will issue a scholarship to a student seeking a land surveying career in the State of Florida.

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, Harley Cooper Gilmore, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and longtime licensed land surveyor, passed away at the age of 85 due to complications from a sudden stroke.

Harley had been surveying in Florida for over 66 years, with practical experience ranging from tail rod man on a survey crew to President and CEO of a medium sized surveying and engineering firm. He has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Florida and was a licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper LS1844 in Florida.

He was a College Professor at the Pasco Hernando Community College for 17 years. Harley authored over 40 manuals which includes texts on Florida’s Standards of Practice and detailed review of civil case law pertaining to land surveying.

He was Director of Education for PDHpro LLC, formally known as Academic Services Corporation, one of the leading continuing education providers for Land Surveyors. In that capacity he has taught over 600 courses on land surveying subjects, with several thousand more by correspondence. He provided these services nationwide.

Additional former professional activities include; President, West Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Surveying and Mapping Society; President, Florida Section, American Society of Civil Engineers; Secretary, District 10 Region of the American Society of Civil Engineers; Member of the Ad Hoc Committee, Florida State Board of Surveyors and Mappers, review and recommended changes to Florida Statute Chapter 177; Over 20 years of attendance at the Florida State Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers Board meetings.

Harley’s current professional memberships included Florida Surveying and Mapping Society; Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors; American Congress of Surveying and Mapping; and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park on Monday, December 16, 2 p.m.  located at 6919 Providence Road Riverview, FL 33578. In lieu of flowers, donations to a Land Surveyor Student Fund can be made through Go Fund Me.
