Harris M. Wheeler, Sr. was a beloved and incredibly talented member of the Cobb County Community here in Georgia for well over 50 years. His health had been declining since a serious stroke in February, 2022. Sadly, we lost him on April 10, 2024. Please go to the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home (www.mayeswarddobbins.com) for more info on the service, which is Monday, April 15th at 10:30am in the sanctuary of First Baptist Marietta. After 32 years as our Church Pianist and Music Associate, Harris was named Pianist Emeritus at First Baptist Marietta in May, 2022. He taught high school students for decades at McEachern, Pebblebrook, North Cobb and Mount Paran. He was a talented composer and arranger and well known in community theater and many other productions, among those for Canton Theater and Six Flags Over Georgia. He composed the songs and directed the singers and dancers for the musical comedy "Della's Diner" which was first performed at Gene & Gabe's Theater in Atlanta, then performed and still performed off Broadway. Harris' thrill of a lifetime was performing under the direction of Robert Shaw in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. We can rejoice that Harris, Sr. is at peace and healed from his earthly struggle and is now reunited with his loving wife, Mary, who predeceased him. My name is Lynda Martin and I join with many friends from his home church, First Baptist Marietta, in the establishment of this fund to help as his son, Harris M. Wheeler, Jr. and I work on settlement of affairs. Harris Sr. had wishes and dreams he wanted to achieve for his son, and his body just gave out before all those dreams were realized. Harris, Sr. had an amazing, God given talent to touch hearts and change lives through his music, particularly at the piano. We hope that all those touched by his gifts would now help Harris to achieve those dreams by considering a gift to his son. Let us all lift up Harris Jr. with our love, thoughts and prayers as he navigates a new life without his dad. Please share this fund with those you know who loved Harris as dearly as we do. Thank you in advance for your loving donation.
