HMS Community Garden Sustainability
Our Garden Website
The Harris Garden has been growing since 2009, and what was once a barren field is now, truly, one of the most unique learning spaces that exists anywhere. Created by an art teacher and science teacher, both design concept and science have worked together to bring forth an exceptional space.
These unique learning opportunities are made possible through funding that we don't currently have.
A student today said, in reflection to his carrot harvest, "it felt good to be able to take our vegetables home...because we grew them on our own..."
In addition to supporting the students and faculty of the school, we have used this space to bridge the community to our school, and as difficult as this was to do - we have done it. This Spring, we are offering nine community education classes, five parent/student classes, holding plant sales, and implementing state of the art facilities and curriculum.
I don't have any available funding to buy resources, to support the daily needs of the program, or to complete the projects for sustainability.
When my friends found out that I was struggling this much to keep such an innovative and inspirational program running, they suggested I set up a "GoFundMe" account.
By donating, you're helping more than our present kids and the teachers involved today, you're helping all of the kids and community members that will benefit from this project for years to come.
