Story for Erica
Erica is an emergency room Nurse at the Robley Rex VAMC in Louisville, KY. She has been fighting on the front lines of COVID 19 since the start of the pandemic. Erica went beyond the average when she chose to take a travel nurse position in Boston for COVID relief at the beginning of the year. With an established career as a nurse with 13 years experience, over 10 years of ER work as well as time in management; she herself has been enduring the ramifications of COVID 19 since the end of October. From the diagnosis of COVID 19 to then developing bilateral pneumonia, she has now been admitted to the hospital for treatment and diagnosis of Guillian-Barré Syndrome. This is a rare inflammatory disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the covering that protects the nerves (myelin sheath) from damage. It can cause prevention of nerves to be transmitted to the brain, causing numbness, weakness, or paralysis.
Erica is used to being a healthy interactive mom who plays with her younger children and someone who chooses to get up at 4 or 5 am before her shift to workout. She is not only a nurse but a friend, wife, coworker, mom, sister, a woman of faith, and a has a kindred and giving soul to anyone that she is able to touch. She has a loving husband and four children; twins aged 11, daughter 7, and son 5.
For a caregiver that has given so much of herself, we are asking for others to give anything that they can for not only her but her families financial burdens. Now is not the time we want her or her family worrying about hospital bills or finances. In this time, we want to lift this family up in prayer and help bless them with the financial ability to only focus on Erica’s full recovery. No amount is too small, and any contribution you can give will be immensely appreciated.
