Harry's dream to have his own marimba
My name is Hannah and I've known Harry for 14 years since he was 4 years old. I was his first music teacher when he started lessons at 8 years old.
Harry is deaf and has certain physical limitations related to his cerebral palsy. Despite all of this, Harry is a gifted and hardworking musician.
Playing the marimba has been a form of physiotherapy for Harry. His mum, Francisca describes the improvement his involvement in regular music making has on his fine and gross motor skills and his general upper body coordination.
Playing the marimba has also facilitated a meaningful connection to the rich musical traditions of his native Nicaragua.
Due to circumstances beyond his control he is no longer able to attend the music school where he began learning marimba 10 years ago. This means he no longer has access to a marimba.
Please consider donating to this fundraiser which aims to commission a full size, chromatic wooden marimba from artisans in the town of Masaya and then transport the instrument to his home in Esteli.
Thank you in advance for all your support x
