Harvey Gardipee- Bone Marrow Stay
Donation protected
It’s humbling to have to even ask... but my Uncle Harvey (Gardipee) needs some financial help.
When Aunt Trina was sick, this community rallied around us. We were able to raise a significant amount of money at her auction. With those funds, Uncle Harvey was able to care for her in her final days, pay for her funeral, grieve her without financial stress and have time to adjust his lifestyle to be able to live without her income. It is that fact alone that makes us almost embarrassed to come to our community again. But we feel a little helpless right now, so here we are.
One year to the month after losing his wife from ovarian cancer, Uncle Harvey was faced with his own cancer diagnosis (AML). Between long term disability insurance and support from his amazing work family (Cascade Hardwood, you all are the real MVP’s), he was able to take the time off he needed to heal. We were so happy to have the news of his remission in January 2018 and thought the nightmare was behind us. He even had a couple quarters left in his pocket. ;)
Fast forward to June, when he had a relapse of the leukemia. He has stayed afloat financially (barely) until this point, but he is now facing a very risky and involved bone marrow transplant to give him his life back and reduce the fear of another relapse.
This transplant poses a huge financial burden that frankly, he has no idea how he will pay. He is currently back on long term disability insurance and receives about 55% of his wage. His co-workers have generously donated money to help him buy a hospital bed, get to and from his appointments, and pay his hefty deductible. Here’s where we need to get him some financial help:
With the bone marrow transplant, he will need to live in special housing in Seattle with a round the clock care giver. Insurance is not likely to cover this, unfortunately. We are trying to raise money for 3.5 months of the special housing at around $2400 a month.
We are hoping to be as transparent as possible so you can give confidently knowing that this is a true and great need for an amazing and generous man who has given so much to others throughout the years.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, love and prayers. ❤️
