HASC 5K for 5K Swimathon
Donation protected
Hawkesbury Amateur Swimming Club members young and old are raising money by collectively swimming 5000 metres on the one night. We are aiming to swim 5k to raise 5k to help give our club a much needed boost. Our main club fundraiser, the weekly sausage sizzle, hasn't happened for two years due to COVID and floods - so we're going to dive deep (literally) to raise money for our club. We appreciate times are tough for many people so we're just asking for a small donation and if any businesses want to donate - we will give them a big shout out on social media.
On Friday December 16 at our regular club night, we'll run a relay style event where our club members will collectively swim 5000 metres. Our little swimmers will swim half a lap, while our more experienced swimmers will attempt much larger distances.
The Hawkesbury Amateur Swimming Club started primarily to conduct learn to swim classes in the river at the Windsor Bridge, although some races were held between pontoons moored in the river. Our records date back to November 1956, however classes had been held for some years prior to this date. Later lessons were held at the RAAF pool and the Hawkesbury Agricultural College pool. (Now part of the University of Western Sydney)
At the Annual General Meeting in 1964 the Club decided to affiliate with New South Wales Amateur Swimming Association and run the Club from the newly constructed Richmond Pool.
The HASC is a Hawkesbury institution and these funds will help the club will live on for many more generations.
