Hattie Winkle Medical Costs

Donation protected
Hi friends- I am Shelby Winkle’s sister, Emily. I know a lot of you have been following Hattie Winkle’s journey thus far. Please read below and share as you feel led.

After her initial biopsy in January 2023, Hattie was diagnosis with a rare kidney disease, Immune Complex Glomerulonephritis.
It has been a long 11 months to get to this point, but the battle has truly just begun. Over the course of the next few months, Shelby, Blake, and Hattie will be residents of the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This time away from home and work will present numerous challenges, with unpaid time off work being one. We ask for your support to help alleviate some financial burden. Above all else, we are asking for prayers. Please see Shelby’s latest update below. We will continue to use this outlet to share updates, too.

Hattie is a precious 2 year old girl fighting a very arduous battle. We have faith in our Father to completely heal Hattie.

From Shelby: A lot has happened over the past 48 hours, so I just wanted to give everyone an update.

Her surgery to convert her G tube to a G/J tube went well and she was even able to come off of her oxygen. That night her work of breathing increased again which caused her oxygen level to drop, and she was placed back on oxygen. Over the past 24 hours she has gone from high flow oxygen, BIPAP, to now needing to be placed on a ventilator. Her kidneys have basically shut down, she has had very little urine output, and therefore all of the fluid in her body is 3rd spacing into her tissues and lungs. She needs dialysis started today. She is not stable enough to transfer to Cincinnati children’s hospital today, so the plan is to place her dialysis catheter today, start dialysis to remove fluid, then transfer her once she is more stable. She will remain on a ventilator through all of this. Due to Hattie’s size, the surgery to place her hemodialysis catheter will be a very risky surgery, but we have no choice.

It’s been a long few days, and even longer, harder days to come. Hattie has people all over praying for her. We appreciate each and every one of you who have reached out to us. Our circle just continues to show up and bless us in so many ways. We are so incredibly thankful for each and every one of you. I will likely be making a Caring Bridge page for those who want to follow along this journey with Hattie

Update: Surgery went well, and Hattie is in recovery. She will remain on the ventilator to start dialysis and for transport to Cincinnati. Praising the Lord for guiding the surgeon through this surgery.
