Haunted House Sleepover

On All Hallows Eve, 31st October, a night when the dead walk the earth, 12 brave souls and a dog are spending the night in one of the most haunted houses in Oxfordshire to raise money for Citizens Advice North Oxfordshire. 37, South Bar, Banbury, is now home to the Townhouse Wellbeing clinic. I cannot reveal too much detail of the terrible events in this house that are now etched on the fabric of time lest I frighten these good people from their noble task. I will say that from 1870 the house was home to a wealthy solicitor, his younger wife, their six children and three servants, who called her the Duchess due to her imperious manner. Also living there was Jessie Mackay, 27, a governess. She was the daughter of Angus Mackay, a noted exponent of the bagpipes, and the first piper to the sovereign, Queen Victoria. He was a wealthy and successful man until, in 1859, he went insane and was committed to an asylum. He escaped one night and was never seen again, presumed to have drowned in a nearby river, although no body was found, leaving his family destitute. I will say this to those taking part, beware of the skirl of the bagpipes.
