Hi, my name is Shawn and I'm a disabled veteran, recently I suffered a severe injury unrelated to my va benefits, but limits the use of my left arm. The va is treating it. Now i find out that we are being evicted because i cant mow a lawn as often as the other tenants due to my physical limitations, and according to the landlord, I'm not healthy enough to live in this house, which is discrimination, but I can't afford to pay a lawsuit attorney. Also, he told me that it costs him more money than what we pay for rent because he has to keep paying for maintenance on his nearly 100 year old house, we can't pay for everything that he is responsible for as a property manager. Also, we have never missed rent, and can prove it. So now I am fundraising so i might be able to cover the expenses of travel to and from physical therapy after my surgery in March, help with moving, and for additional expenses in having to move unexpectedly. This is not just about myself, this money will go a long way to help my family. It will give us a chance to finally have a home of our own and keep us, especially our daughter, from being homeless. We're just in a bad situation with being forced out of the house that we've lived in for the last 10 years and having a messed up arm isn't helping. I'm not at liberty to go into anymore details (and I really want to but an attorney advised me in a free consult, not to arm the enemy) because it could make our situation worse than it already is, but I can tell you that it isn't our choice and it wasn't anything we did that brought this about. I can say, however, that we put roughly $16,000 of our own money into this house to make improvements to it, replacing the flooring when we moved in because it was infested with fleas from the last tenants dogs, and we have the receipts to prove it, we had a room that was unfinished that we had electric put in and closed in so it was useable, we have receipts for that, we replaced the dishwasher because it broke down from age and use, replaced the oven because it was starting to go out, we have receipts for both. We put a concrete floor in his garage because he wouldn't do it and our belongings were geting destroyed by ground squirrels but we dont have a receipt for that. We did all of this because he said we could live here as long as we wanted and that we didnt have to ask for permission as long as what we did improves the house. Hindsight, yes it was stupid, but we thought we could trust him. My guess is he wants to raise the rent way more than what hes allowed but can't do it to us because hes already raised it and has to wait almost a year before he can do it again. There was no rental agreement so getting rid of us and moving in new tenants would make it easier to do. I tried getting help from all the programs that were given to me when I called all over trying to get help but as of now, none have been panned out. Gofundme is my only option. Our primary issues are that we cant afford oregon rental rates and we have a chance to have our own property so we wont have to move again, but unfortunately we do need help because we can't get our money back due to the length of time that its been otherwise I'd have sued him. I can tell you all of that because we can prove it, so it cant be made into a defamation case. We managed to get a piece of land in Arizona for small down payment and $100 a month, but we cant live on it until a septic tank is installed. The money will be used responsibly and go towards transportation to and from physical therapy, moving expenses, a big part of it will be used for getting our property ready to live on by having a septic system installed, and help with covering any additional expenses that may be unforseen. I greatly appreciate any and all help, God bless you.
