Haven Hub Support Service for Limerick
Donation protected
Alot of Limerick Families have been affected by suicide lately. We have twice the national average and the peak time for a person to end their lives is 10pm at night. In spite of this almost all local mental health services are closed by then.
A number of suicide prevention and search and rescue groups, along with other individuals passionate about suicide prevention have come to the table to combine efforts in an attempt to provide get a new after hours service called The Haven Hub.
The Haven Hub will be a safe place after hours where a distressed person can go for some support from suicide prevention trained volunteers. Whether it is simply a cup of tea and someone to talk to , or help to keep themselves safe, The Haven Hub will support a person in distress or at risk.
We will also be a place that Patrol Teams can bring a person in distress instead of trying to support them in a cold bench near the river. We will link people with local services that alot of people are not aware of, so that they know suicide is not the only option. We will follow up in the days after the crisis to ensure these links are made with other organisations and that the person does not fall through the cracks.
The Haven Hub will also support the families of people with mental health difficulties, in particular giving a supportive space for families whose loved ones are missing.
We will need to raise funds to cover the costs such as insurance, running costs, training for volunteers etc. We also need a business or organisation to allow us the use of their facility (under our own insurance) to bring this much needed new service to Limerick before more lives are lost.
